2mm N Gauge 1:160 by Dave Carnelly

Lillesdorf started out as a small table top idea that quickly grew beyond that. In reality this is my first attempt at anything other than 4mm modern image British outline and is a break from the "norm" being heavily involved with Quaker Lane but having observed a small Minitrix tank engine run non-stop for two days solid with no problems at all I decided to challenge myself and see exactly what was possible in this scale. I joined the German Railway Society and quickly became hooked, so the decision was taken to base the layout on the continent. Stock was purchased and plans drawn up and in early 2004, the baseboard completed and track quickly followed. More stock was purchased but unfortunately a move of house prevented much work on the layout and the layout stayed in this state until 2005 when I regained the impetus to complete it, (o.k. so there are still things to do but my mind has since wandered to projects bigger! After all I have purchased yet more stock!!)

The layout is set amongst the beautiful scenery of the Black Forrest and represents the junction of two branch lines. The modest station, loco and goods facilities serve the fictitious village of Lillesdorf which lies way down in the valley below. Set in epoch III the line is still served by the aging steam locomotives with convert, thunderbox and tourist stock. Freight runs as and when required and it can be days between the goods yard seeing any traffic, most village supplies now brought conveniently into the town centre by road.
